Name: Pennie DOB: 12/17/2015 Weight: 14 lbs Adoption Fee: 375.00 *Fenced in yard, small canine companion and quiet home environment required for this special gal!*  Hi, my name is Pennie and I came all the way from the streets of Texas with the help of Ruff Start Rescue! Because I have been on the streets and likely mistreated, I am frightened of people and day to day life of humans. I was rescued and transported with my sister and everyone thought we were bonded but we are both doing better now seperated. My sister would often get most of our food and treats and if I tried to get some, she would try to keep me away. Now the treats are all mine and that has been great! My foster Mom plays fun food finding games with me to build my confidence. She will leave toys outside of my crate with delicious treats under them or tucked in somewhere for me to find. Not only do I find the treats but I will often bring a couple of toys with me in my crate. My foster Mom loves seeing which toys I have picked that day and if I found all of my treats. I have a safe little nook in one of the bedrooms at my foster home and I really like the other dogs that are here, so a canine friend that is not too big is a must for me to continue to learn what being a dog is! Since I am not used to living in a house, I am not potty trained to go outside, but I am using my poddy pads perfectly. My foster Mom has been reading to me often and I listen to classical music and it is really calm and quiet here - I hope for the same environment in my forever home! My foster Mom does not touch me because I get really scared and I will have an accident, so she is letting me decide the pace of us bonding and I really appreciate that. I have really pretty brindle fur and the sweetest eyes. Time and patience are what I need so I can adjust to living in a house, having a yard, and a family. I need a home with a fenced yard and young children would likely be too much for me. I would also benefit from positive training and even have a trainer come into the home to work with me, like my foster Mom has done. I was heartworm positive and have finished my last set of treatments, so I am currently on exercise restrictions, which is no problem for me because I am not very active due to being fearful.  If you have room in your home and heart for me, I would love to find my forever home! My foster Mom is experienced with fearful dogs and will be happy to help you in any she can to transition us. I am not a plug and play dog but I am definitely worth the patience and love to help me get there! Are you the special person I need? In the meantime, if you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal. Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!   All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).   Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept.
